In January 2019 the Library held a sold out author event celebrating and discussing the content of one of last year’s key texts, The Good Immigrant. Selena Godden, Wei Ming Kam and Darren Chetty, contributing authors to The Good Immigrant’s collection of stories took part in a discussion, taking questions form the crowd of over 300 students and staff from the university. The event explored subjects such as BAME representation in the media, the use of the acronym BAME in institutions and organisations, tokenism and much more.
Students and staff had the opportunity to contribute to conversation and insight debate amongst the panel and the audience. The authors spoke very openly and honestly and dialogues held were very illuminating. The library is incredibly grateful to Selena, Wei Ming and Darren for their time spent visiting Leicester and our university. The thoughts they shared were insightful and inspirational to the students in attendance. We don’t often get to explore this subject matter with that many passionate and educated voices in the room, it really was a very special evening, thank you to all those that attended.
